Taking a stand when it counts

We have talked about what leading looks like when your leading others but what does leadership look like behind closed doors? That's right, what does a leader do when no one else is looking? Do they rest? Kick up their feet and relax? No. Jocko taught me that when no one is looking, that is the time to sneak in some extra work. What does sneaking in extra work look like? It means leading yourself.

See if you look at yourself and your thoughts and your instincts and the things you have trained yourself to do, you are a team. Your body and your muscles and your respiratory system all work together as a team to keep you moving and you are the leader of that team too. That's why you work out, and why you do things to keep that team working.

Same thing with your metal team, you have to make decisions to lead that team to success. And some of those decisions are not easy to make. And One of those decisions your going to have to make is whether you're gonna fight every time someone disagrees with you or let some things slide. In order to keep your team prime you have got to let some arguments slide. But not all things.

My dad always taught me to prepare for whatever you can. Going into a situation you have to have a plan A, B, C and D. You have to know what you're going to do regardless of what happens. In the same way you have to prepare for what you are going to fight for beforehand. If you read the article entitled have we forgotten you saw that I made myself a list of things I wouldn't compromise on.

1- my God

2- My family

3- brave men and woman

4 - my country

I had to take control of my mental team and lead it by saying this is what we fight for, let the other stuff slide. Because we have to be ready to fight for these things we need to keep ourselves fueled up, by not taking a stand against everyone that bothers us.

Application?

Make yourself a list and lead yourself to success.

“If you stand for nothing you will fall for anything.”
