“Take care of your gear and your gear will take care of you.”
This concept is ground into us as Guardian Angels, and my dad has done the same with our hunting gear. And sometimes our lives actually depend on it. All your gear is important but some more than others. For hunting, it's your boots, firearm, binos, and orange. Because of this we spend time before and after each hunt taking care of our gear even when we are tired and wet and hungry. Gear comes first!
This also applies to the clothes you wear every day. This isn't going to be a lesson on fashion, those of you that know me know that would be pointless because my fashion sense consists of two questions: Is it black? And is it comfortable? But rather it's a lesson on taking care of what you have. Keeping your clothes in constant working order is key, being able to know exactly where your stuff is enables you to act whenever. Including in the middle of the night without the lights on.
First off all we got the concept across, so where is the application? For Guardian Angels it means pristine closets. But not only is that not practical in most cases but its not required for actual function.
So find something that works for you, don't go easy on yourself but be practical. Roll your shirts, hang your hoodies, tuck your laces into your shoes. Memorize where you have stuff and always keep it there. Take care of your gear so that your gear takes care of you.
