Little deaths

Before we get started here, let's give credit where credit is due. The theme of today's lesson is taken from a chapter of Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliot called, believe it or not, Little Deaths.

And now we start.

When talking about her husband to be and having to wait for God's timing in their relationship Elliot talks about how much she loved Jim. Unfortunately, the time for them to be in a relationship wasn't right and Jim took a position as a single in South America, leaving Elisabeth in school and alone. Her thoughts at that time ran along the lines of:

“He loved us both, knew exactly how we loved each other, and even the detours to lead us home again.” she was thinking of how much God loved her and Jim. She also went on to wrestle with the fact that when God's will and your will don't line up some ones gotta yield.

And that's where the tea is for us today.

In theory we all know that when it comes to God's will or our will… the answer is pretty simple. So why is it so hard? Because it hurts to let our will die. But if we look back at the above quote, the one about how much God loved both Elisabeth and Jim and how much they loved each other, we see what we need to. He knows how much it hurts.

Little deaths are deaths none the same. Our will dying to God's will, no matter how small the situation is, is a battle we have to fight.

So fight your battles, die your deaths, but only loose to one person. Jesus Christ.

Alright fam. This one's short sweet and to the point.
