Happy

“Why?” Hetz asked as he pulled Jack's scrunchie out for the upteenth time. She sighed, turning to retrieve it.

“Because I like it.”

“It's yellow! You wouldn't wear yellow if you were paid to.”

“We've been over this. For some reason this yellow scrunchie makes me happy.”

“But it's pointless.”

“Things done have to have a point to brighten your day. I mean sometimes you make me happy and you clearly don't have a point.” They laughed and then she continued. “Sometimes you gotta do little things to make yourself smile.”

“Like what?”

“Like sleeping with a stuffed animal, or using a purple pen with red ink, putting stickers on your mirror, or wearing a yellow scrunchie. It's just because.”

“That was happy.”

“What?”

“What you just said. It was happy. Like how you were before.”

She smiled, realizing he was right. And then he continued. “You know why I grab it so often? Because you make me happy.”
