Shots fired

Jack peeled her eyes open, almost scared by the atmosphere around her. But then she remembered why there was a group of girls scattered on the floor in front of her.

“Morning.” Hetz waved at her from across the room.

“Ehh.”

“Ive got coffee.” She tiptoed around the girls around her, noting that Hetz must have done the same thing before her, as he was already sitting on the raised area used as a stage, a cup of steaming coffee clutched in his hand. “How did you sleep?”

“Pretty good.” Jack chuckled. “Gotta love that king sized floor.” She took a huge gulp of coffee only to realize halfway down that it was straight espresso shots.

“Dude!” she choked.

“Oh yeah sorry, its mostly sho-”

“Shots!”

“Yeah but I always-”

“No! Shots! Like gunfire!” Jack jumped up and pulled her pistol from where it had been resting in her holster and pointed it toward the door. The gunshots were getting progressively louder and soon all the people around them jumped up and some even began running around and screaming. “Everyone quiet!” Jack hollard and a terrified silence filled the room. She knew that the church was surrounded but she had no idea how close they were. The only doors in and out went straight to the parking lot. She had no idea what was causing the gunfire but it was only a matter of time until the guns would be pointed at them.

Out of immediate danger, she holstered her weapon and turned to Hetz. “How far out?” He asked.

“Sounds like a few blocks, but I don't know if that's the only group.”

“You know if they find us, they will kill us right?”

“Well then I guess we gotta make sure that doesn't happen.”

“Well how are you planning on doing that? We have two dozen freaked out people, one door going right to the street, two guns and only one of their owners knows how to use them.”

“Yeah that's right, you failed general gunmanship.” Jack said smiling, knowing full well he didn't, but neither did she. “There's got to be another way outta here.”

“There isn't though. We looked last night.”

“Well its amazing what adrenaline will do to help you find an escape.” Jack said throwing a glance at the people scattered around them.

“Lucky for us we got a whole lotta adrenaline.” Hetz said understanding, then he yelled “Listen up! I'm not going to lie to you. We need to work together if were going to get outta here alive. And even if we do work together we still might not make it out. But we've gotta try.”

“Thanks for that super motivational speech.” Jack whispered and then pointed at the group. “You search the walls. Yall over there the floor and the rest of you the ceiling.” At first no one moved but then Hetz stepped in again.

“Whenever you wanna move is fine, sure they might be getting closer but totally at your leisure.” With that reminder they all moved as if someone had just pressed play on their lives. Hetz smiled as Jack whacked his arm. “What? It worked! They’re looking now!”

“Yes but you can at least be a bit nicer about it.”

Deck the halls pt 2

When they arrived Hetz set about popping the popcorn and Jack judged his choice of blankets. “This is like an actual saddle blanket. You can relax under this? It's like trying to get cozy under a cact
