Sneak peak into book two part 1

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

It started at the end.

The end of the world.

The end of the funeral.

The end of Guardian Angels as it once was.

That's kinda a depressing way to start a story, but it's the truth.

Hetz grabbed her helmet and ran after Jack.

Recently he found himself doing this alot, more than usual that is. She would run off, plummeting into a situation or just to run maybe, and he would be left to cover for her. This time however he really needed to stop her. She had left her helmet in his hands when she left.

His TAC gear made a constant swishing sound as he charged after her. Training exercise or not, the bullet sims could still easily cost her an eye without her helmet on.

They had been tasked with making their way from one end of the training “town” to the other without being seen or heard so yelling for her wasn't an option. Instead he was left to hope that she had kept a straight line. When he sprinted by a house a minute later he suddenly felt as if he had run into it.

Jack pulled him into the door, forcing him to realize that the hours his friend had spent in the gym following Matt's death turned her into one jacked little dude.

“I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I’m sorry.” she stammered, making sure that Hetz didn't have to address her infraction. He planted her helmet on her head, a little too hard maybe but she buckled it on anyway.

“Are you ok?”

“I think- No. I'm not, Hawk was right, it's too soon for this.”

“You know yourself Jack. It's been 6 months. Keep trying.”

“I don't want to!”

“Jack-”

“My body isnt working like it should. I don't know what it's going to do. IM. NOT. READY.” He wanted to push her, he knew she would be so much happier when she was back doing the work she loved. But he couldn't. Hawk had told him not to and if he was honest he might not have been either.

“Ok.” He nodded. “Alright, I'll call it in.” He turned around and activated his MC. “Foxtrot 2 to Bravo 3 over.”

“Bravo 3.”

“We’re done.”

“You sure?” He glanced over his shoulder at Jack who started puking in the corner.

“Yeah. Get us out.”

Deck the halls pt 2

When they arrived Hetz set about popping the popcorn and Jack judged his choice of blankets. “This is like an actual saddle blanket. You can relax under this? It's like trying to get cozy under a cact
