Jack sat on her porch, trying to simultaneously finish school work and watch her younger siblings around her, when a huge black truck stopped in front of her. Instincts flooded her veins as she prepared for the worse by practically ditching her computer to stand up and send her siblings inside.
“Gosh, no need to freak.” Par said, jumping out. “How do you like it?”
“Like what?”
“Wilber.” Par said, slapping what she could reach of the hood of the lifted truck.
“You named your truck Wilber?” She said coming down to the curb.
“That she did.” Hetz said rolling down the window to reveal his presence in the passenger seat.
“There was obviously no council taken when you named that.” Jack said walking around to the other side, and finding Cam jumping down from the back seat. “She did not.”
“What are you doing here? Arnt you on shift?” She said, glancing at her watch.
“Not any more.”
“We all called in sick.”
“To come bother me?”
Par grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the house. “Were going out.” she whispered.
“I cant. I got the sibs.”
“Uncle Hetz!” one of Jack's little sisters ran by her and into Hetz’es arms.
“Whats up my dude?” he responded, throwing her on his shoulders, very nearly hitting her head on the door frame.
“Grab your stuff.” Par said. “The boys are gunna watch em.” Jack's response was horror. But then she watched as Hetz made himself comfortable. The kids loved him anyway, him and Cam together should be able to hold down the fort for at least a little while.
“Where are we going?”
“Caffeination. I firmly believe in priorities.” Par said as soon as they left. Alexa Perry like all other GAs had a nickname that was more her name then her real name was. Par and Cam had been partners for the last year and a half, and for equally as long everyone knew that they should start dating. Par however was set on not getting her heart broken and Cam had the flirting skills of a sloth, so they continued to be partners.
Par stopped her truck in an empty parking lot. “What are we doing?”
“Come on.” She said going to the back of the truck and pulling out two penny boards, and four red bulls. “You should have seen the dudes face when I bought these. He was so close to telling me not to drink them all at the same time.”
“I- Can't skate board.”
“Im well aware, but there is no time like the present-” And there- on the side of the road, Par dropped her cargo pants, to reveal her spandex and hoodie combo.
“Good grief Par. The people driving by were preparing for a mooning.”
“I know.” She laughed. “But it's really hard to do in cargo pants.” Par knew that Jack was stressed out. Not because Jack voiced it but because Par was so intune with her that she knew when something was off. She was the perfect combo of caring and having no limits. She was going to do whatever it took to make Her best friend happy again. Even if it ment calling in sick from work, providing babysitters, kidnapping Jack into a night of caffeination, skating, and sunsets. It didnt matter what the world thought of her, only what Jack felt at that moment.
Thats the kind of quality person you dont run across too often in life. Those are the keeper kind of people.
